I completely agree with Megan; a newsletter should not be totally dominated by self promotion. It needs to have true value for readers to gain traction and maintain a following. Our electric company is actually a co-op that we had to join. We get a quarterly newsletter in the mail, and it's always full of tips for easy ways to save energy (i.e. money) around the house, and even has coupons for local businesses to help homeowners achieve greater energy efficiency.
